What is US CMA
The Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is a globally recognized top credential in management accounting, administered by the Institute for Management Accountants (IMA) in the USA. The US CMA certification is acknowledged in over 170 countries.
Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor’s (B. Com | BBA) Students
- Masters (M. Com | MBA) Students
- Professional Qualification (CA | ACCA | ICMA | ICAEW) Students, Qualified or Part-Qualified
Education Qualification
To become a certified CMA, candidates must satisfy one of the following education requirements and submit verification of education to ICMA within seven years of completing the CMA examination.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

CMA candidates must submit all required educational documents to CMAEducationdocuments@imanet.org along with your IMA membership number. In the event we require the original, you will be contacted by ICMA directly.
Note: Documents are shredded six months after your CMA profile has been updated.
Professional Experience Qualification
Candidates for the CMA certification must complete two continuous years of professional experience in management accounting and/or financial management. This requirement may be completed prior to or within seven years of passing the examination.
We encourage you to submit your education and work experience documentation prior to completing both parts of the CMA exam.
Registration
Before you can register for the CMA exam, you need to become a member of the IMA (Institute of Management Accountants). This is a mandatory requirement.

Exams
Part 1: Financial Planning, Performance, and Analytics (4 hours – 100 multiple-choice questions and two 30-minute essays)
- Part 2: Strategic Financial Management (4 hours – 100 multiple-choice questions and two 30-minute essays)
After passing both the papers, you will need to submit 2 years Work Experience and Bachelor's or Equivalent Degree to IMA within 7 years of passing both the papers to get the Certificate.
- CMA Exam is conducted in a Computer-Based format.
- CMA Exam is administered at PROMETRIC Testing Centers located around the world.
IMA provides a duration of Maximum 3 years (under Student Membership), from the date of registration, to complete the CMA (USA) Course.

REQUIREMENTS OF CMA (USA) License
- Successful Completion of Part 1 and Part 2 Exams.
- Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Professional Accounting Certification.
